Position: Sr. Linux Engineer
Location: Jersey City (NJ)
Duration: 6 Months+
The Linux Systems Engineer position is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.
The ideal candidate should be an experienced technical operations individual who has the capacity to drive and work on a wide variety of technical operations tasks from lower level hardware/OS builds to higher level application specific operations.
• The Linux Systems Engineer will support daily operations and help develop strategies to improve availability and utilization of Linux/Unix environments.
• Must have expertise with RedHat Linux and various other Linux flavors with applied experience of 7 years or more in Administration of Linux/Apache/MySQL. Must also have related experience with associated open-source and enterprise applications
• Experience with centralized patch management of Linux servers
• Experience maintaining open source packages and/or working with the open source community.
• Management and maintenance of LDAP authentication and centralized management for Linux systems
• In depth understanding of networking, UNIX-like services and concepts.
• Advanced application debugging knowledge. Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures. Strong troubleshooting skills and a passion for problem solving and investigation.
• Advance kernel debugging and tuning knowledge.
• Experience packaging software with RPM.
• Experience with tools used for performance monitoring of server systems
• Ability to work with conflicting priorities and able to use initiative to develop solutions.
• Software development/programming experience is preferred.
• Must have good understanding of scripting (Perl/Python/Bash).
• Familiar with HTTP/HTTPS, SFTP, Proxy servers.
• Exposure to cloud computing / management / maintenance is a huge plus
• May require up to 25% travel, as well as off hours and weekend support
Candidate must be able to work diligently without the need for close supervision and be an excellent team player
